this landscape #1229 has a comical backstory … It was a commissioned landscape for the ‘Igloo’ Cooler brand . The ad writer’s visual story as I recall went like this … in 64 AD during the reign of Emperor Nero , The Great Fire of Rome could be seen here in the vortex of the distant hills ( I of course revised the landscape to its current idealism )
in the central foreground of the Painted Vista were an exhausted group of ‘centuries’ and of course what could be more welcome than a cool refreshing drink of ‘Posca’ out of the Igloo Cooler ! Note … common drinks of that period included water, wine, and Posca / a mixture of water and vinegar that served as a refreshing and slightly acidic drink for Roman soldiers . It was a staple in their diet providing hydration during long marches and challenging circumstances . Sounds to me similar to Lemonade, vinegar is a viable substitute for lemon
