Pointillism
But of course an Homage to Georges Seurat’s ‘ A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte ‘ !
Anything Vogue wishes, is to a degree our ‘Command’ I recall when painting this in early 90’s , that after the large mass areas were painted with they’re foundational, primary color blocks with sizable brushes, the overall finishing patina , in the name of ‘ ‘Pointillism’ was actually done with my fingertips ! I spent approximately 4 12 hr days using my fingertips of both hands for pointillist effect , note that the 3x coat applications of canvas priming with gesso , even when lightly sanding down the surface ‘tooth’ between coats, the painting surface is similar to 220 -320 grit sandpaper ! Fingertips are remarkably sensitive to begin with , and there’s incredible endless communication through human ‘ touch / feel ‘ .. all of my fingertips skin became worn away & bloody , at a certain point I recall attempting using fine latex form fitting gloves , that worked to a degree, but the ‘ pointillist’ effect slightly suffered from lack of actual dexterity of flesh ‘fingerprints’, thankfully my fingertips healed back to normal by 12 days later . I would never again repeat this process . Soon, in the next week or so , I intend to unroll this 18 ft x 11 ft painting and take a few closeup pics of its ‘ pointillist ‘ surface , and post it on my IG page !
Make it stand out
